You may know that when you turn 65 you qualify for Medicare. But there are also other circumstances that may make you eligible for coverage. You may be able to apply for Medicare coverage if you have:
- received Social Security Disability benefits for 24 months,
- End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or
- Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Each situation has its own set of requirements. For instance, the 24-month waiting period does not apply to those with ESRD or ALS. However, additional requirements must be met. The eligibility tool on Medicare.gov can help you quickly determine if you qualify.
